The campaign, called the EVCI Diamond Charge Challenge, gives operators the opportunity to have a newly launched site independently inspected at no cost as part of the EVCI Diamond Standard Accreditation programme.
As EV infrastructure continues to expand across the UK and Europe, the accuracy of energy delivered through public charging networks is becoming an increasingly important issue for both drivers and network operators.
Independent EV charging accuracy testing helps ensure that the amount of energy delivered to a vehicle matches the amount recorded and billed during a charging session.
Why EV Charging Accuracy Testing Matters
In traditional fuel markets, strict regulations ensure that fuel pumps dispense the exact quantity shown on the meter. Drivers expect the same level of accuracy and transparency from EV charging.
However, as EV charging networks rapidly scale, operators are beginning to recognise the importance of independently verifying charger performance.
Even small discrepancies between reported and delivered energy can affect both consumer trust and operator revenue.
For example:
The Diamond Charge Challenge
The EVCI Diamond Charge Challenge invites Charge Point Operators to submit EV charging sites that have been installed or launched within the past six months.
Operators can submit multiple sites for consideration, although only one site per operator will be selected for complimentary inspection as part of the campaign.
Selected sites will undergo independent EV charging accuracy testing using EVCI’s specialised inspection equipment and testing methodology.
Sites that meet the required performance thresholds may achieve Diamond Standard Accreditation, providing independent verification that the chargers deliver energy accurately and transparently.
Accredited sites may also be featured as case studies highlighting high-performing EV charging infrastructure.
Where a site does not meet accreditation criteria, inspection findings will be shared confidentially with the operator for internal use only.
Building Trust in EV Charging Infrastructure
As EV adoption accelerates, transparency and reliability across charging networks will become critical to maintaining driver confidence.
Independent inspection programmes such as the Diamond Standard Accreditation help operators demonstrate that their infrastructure is performing as expected.
By launching the Diamond Charge Challenge, EVCI aims to encourage operators to proactively verify charger performance and to showcase sites that deliver accurate, reliable charging experiences.
